“MARLBORO ROAD” GETS RAVE IN BOSTON MUSIC MAG

Boston’s venerable music journal, The Metronome, recently featured a glowing review of our latest album, Marlboro Road. Here’s the story in all its glory:

The Metronome

BROOK MEGGS / Marlboro Road

Singer-guitarist Brook Meggs (cool name) along with bassist Karen Rusk and drummer Mike Levesque bang out a high spirited, power trio driven collection of songs that bristles with tone-filled guitar work, pulsing bass lines and spot-on time keeping. Featuring cameos by November 16th Players Lori Sims Hodges and Jacob Rivera, Meggs and company prove to be a taut pop-rock outfit.

Best cuts on the Marlboro Road collection include the quirky “Chance Encounter,” the reflective, beat-laden ode to former punk rocker/poet, “Jim Carroll Died,” that features stellar solo guitar work, the wah-wah fueled “Lonesome Is,” the high steppin’ blues rock swagger of “Familiar,” and the romping, punk potent “Spill.” This album just gets better sounding listen after listen. Good stuff!   [Douglas Sloan]

Preproduction and preliminary tracking began at Wellspring Sound in Acton MA, Sonalysts Studio in Waterford CT, and Milk House Studios in Sudbury MA.

Then, in November 2017, the entire band headed down to Knoxville TN to record the majority of the album’s twenty songs at Top Hat Recording’s palatial new facility there.

The Meggs Band is: Karen Rusk (bass), Tina Marie Lionstar (vocals), Beverly Bond (vocals), Mike Levesque (drums), Chuck Ferreira (drums), Will Woyda (sonic space and bass) and Brook Meggs (guitars, vocals).

Frequent collaborators Jon Rogers (sax), Marnie Hall (violin), Darek Leiner (drums, percussion), Michael Mendelsohn (vocals, bass), Jeffrey Barnes (percussion), Mickey Roach (pedal steel), Starz Vanderlockett (percussion), Robert Walp (trumpet), Eric Kilburn (mandolin), Arte Munoz (harp) and others are rumored to be participating in the project. The new record will also feature a special guest appearance by sensational young guitar slinger Baxter Hall.

The band is currently road-testing their mountain of new material for unsuspecting audiences in Boston and parts unknown. The collection will be available everywhere, all the time, in all formats, on all media, for ever and ever, amen, beginning on 1/1/19.
